The Queen
Years after being married, and having my first child I thought of England as home. I then applied for my British citizenship. My application was finalized, and I was asked then, as part of the process, to sign that I was happy to agree to swear allegiance to The Queen.
It made me feel very honoured to be asked this, as the loss of my parents when I was such a young age always gave me a sensation of emptiness. I no longer had the security of parenthood, an irreplaceable image to anyone.
Signing these documents made me think of my parents, guiding me to my new home and I was accepted. I could finally now settle down, the blessing of The Queen granting me the my status as a British citizen. I no longer felt abandoned, and instead felt as if I had someone looking out for me.
Years passed, I rebuilt my life and my home became here, in England.
I am always grateful to this country and to our Queen, Elizabeth II.
Sad days as we mourn the loss of our Queen. I believe she knew that people unknown to her have her close to their hearts.
Rest in peace.
